Welcome to Click with Canines

I have been providing private lessons and cannine behaviourist consultations for dogs of Cambridge & Waikato for over 10 years.

My training and behavioural change programs provide you with a framework for teaching your dog.

I can help you train your dog to

  • walk nicely on a lead,
  • come when they are called
  • not to jump on guests
  • have dog-manners

I can also teach skills for dog sports such as agility, obedience and scent work.

I offer one-on-one lessons for you and your family to learn to train your dog (Private lessons) with a session by session price or choose a package that suits you here.

I come to your place within the Cambridge town boundaries or for a mileage fee travel outside that area.

  • Barking on lead at any trigger

  • Antisocial behaviour or nuisance barking at home

  • Separation anxiety (acting out when you arent home)

  • Resource guarding (being overly possessive over toys food)

  • Dog-dog aggression

  • Dog-human aggression

About your trainer - Claire Mead

I am a certified Canine Behaviourist from School of Canine Science.  I have owned and trained my own dogs for about 15 years.  I started training others to train their dogs 10  years ago as a volunteer for my Dog Obedience Club and it soon became an obession.  Teaching others to enjoy and bond with their dogs fulfils my desire to help all the dogs live their best life.

I keep up with the latest dog training techniques by attending any courses and workshops I can find. I am also a full member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers New Zealand.  I have one active border collie  (Sassy) and haved trained her and my previous dog (Ruby) in agility, competition obedience, tricks, scent dog competitions and Disc-Dog competitions. I recently added a rescue dog to the family (Juniper). She is also a working breed - a mix of a few working breeds - a dog DNA test result shows her to be half husky and half lots of herding and working breeds, so she is hard work, but a lot of fun!  Ruby and Sassy were also certified Trick-Dogs with Do More with Your Dog (both had Novice level certificates).   I can't wait to meet you and your dog and get training!

So, Why use a marker based system?

Marker training is great for all types of animals and all types of training, rehabilitation, problem solving and trick training. Clicker training is an efficient, science-based and force-free training technique which empowers you and your dog. Dogs naturally pick on markers in the environment when you are training them so why not use that to your advantage? Using a marker means the dog gets the information that it is doing something right at exactly the right moment and therefore learns quicker.  With a little coordination, a lot of treats, some practice every day and lots of fun, we can teach your dog anything!

Testimonials

“5 stars does not adequately reflect my satisfaction for the dog obedience lessons I have had with Claire. Her vast experience, astute observation & assessment skills coupled with her ability to simultaneously modify canine & human behavior is beyond impressive. I am particularly appreciative of her responsiveness in communication to clarify instructions or deal with issues outside of lessons. If you are in search of an experienced, articulate & effective trainer look no further.”- Franky and Rua’s Dad.

"I'd recommend CwC because Claire is patient, kind, knowledgeable and takes a caring, flexible approach to training you (make no mistake, she trains the human). Taking the time to understand what it is you want out of training and helping you to achieve those goals (even if it takes the owner a while to work it out!). The small size of the class means you get great personal attention and support to be successful”.- Harley’s Mum.

“Claire at Click with Canine’s is super amazing and I cannot recommend her enough! Not only is she a lovely person to deal with but is truely passionate about dogs and helping you to create a well rounded, healthy and happy furbaby member of your family with the help of clicker training. She has tonnes of knowledge and explains things really well and makes it fun and motivating. She has really helped me to give my dog Meeka a well rounded start to her life and I could not be happier with what we have been able to achieve, and could not have done it without Claire.  I would recommend Claire 1000% to anyone wanting help with their furry member of the family”- Meeka’s Mum

“I would definitely recommend Claire’s classes, we really enjoyed the classes and have learned so much. Lots of fun and very informative with plenty of opportunities to ask questions.”-Teddie’s Mum.
